MY THOUGHTS
Penny Panda and the Emotion Ninjas is the second book in the series. Author, Nicole Oke’s mission to help children work through their big feelings is accomplished quite well.
With eye-catching images of butterflies and colorful ninjas, Penny Panda gently explained to Izzy that it is okay to feel more than one emotion. She explained the role of the different emotions, and with that explanation, Izzy could work through the different emotions and push aside the ones that were unnecessary for her dance onstage. So filled with the excitement ninja, she took the stage to dazzle the audience.
I applaud Nicole’s use of her knowledge of social-emotional techniques to assist children, parents, and teachers alike through those big emotions and to realize that everyone else has to work it out as well.
This is something I learned to use in a classroom of three-year-olds and boy was it necessary. There were three girls with different levels of big emotions and with prayer, perseverance, and repetition we made some headway. I am still in touch with two of the girls. One invited me to her quinceanera last month and another just befriended me on the YouVersion Bible app.
When we expect and encourage children to reach for the stars, they end up in the clouds, just as Izzy did.
Key Take Aways:
- Even big emotions can be worked 0ut
- Everyone feels big emotions at some point or another
- It’s okay to ask for help as Izzy did when she headed straight for Penny Panda
Recommendation:
- A must for classrooms, parents, libraries, and churches.
Many thanks to the author and TCBR for the copy I received for review. All thoughts expressed are my own.
