Publisher’s Book Summary: In this modern mashup between Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red dares to be different and takes bold risks as she ventures into a field that is out of the norm for girls. Perfect for girls and boys ages 5 to 10 who love cars, fixing things and fairy tales.

MY THOUGHTS

Little Red Driving Hood and the Three Repairs is the first mashup I’ve read and it was a delight. From the crisp and colorful illustrations to the storyline, it was a great new experience.

It was like reading a mystery and discovering the clues to figure out whodunit. I mentally cataloged the modernizations and thought, that was a great plot twist!

What I Liked

  • Little Driving Hood’s willingness to learn and her helpful nature.
  • Her persistence in the face of failures
  • The inclusiveness. Mechanics are predominantly male and the storyline allows little girls to dream alongside little boys about becoming one when they grow up.

My Key Takeaways

  • Even when we have knowledge and experience, following directions is beneficial for success.
  • Mindset is important. If Little Red Driving Hood kept down the road of comparison and stopped trying, she would not have succeeded.
  • This book is the perfect example of the scripture that tells us that God gives everyone a gift or talent at birth and it is expected to be used to glorify Him and earn us a living.

My Recommendation

  • This book will appeal to little girls and boys who like taking things apart to see how things work.
  • It includes progressive problem solving which is helpful for the 5-10 age group
  • Parents may or may not want to read the original stories with their children to discuss the modernizations.
