A charming read-aloud bedtime book for toddlers

With its sweet bedtime rhymes, I Dream a Dream for You resembles the classic title The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton. A family of red pandas make their home in the forest. When it's time for bed, Mom and Dad tuck in their three kiddos, and as they all drift to sleep, dreams come to life through the vibrant pictures and story. Parents or grandparents will enjoy reading this sweet bedtime rhyme, filled with dreams and aspirations for their little ones. With amazing, colorful illustrations, this read-to-me story richly shows the love of a faith-filled family with creative, interesting scenes that kids will love to see over and over--and those who read it to them will experience the blessing of God's love, which is meant to be shown and shared with families

My Thoughts

The Importance of Dreams

When I saw the cover, I fell in love with I Dream a Dream for You and waited anxiously to see if I would be accepted as one of the tour stops. My anxiety was unnecessary because I received a stop and a copy of the book. It is even more beautiful in person. The peaceful blues and lavender and yellow clouds embodies sleepy time.

As the author writes the dreams we all wish for our children, you find yourself saying it with such enthusiasm, that it feels like a prayer. I thought, hey, this would make an awesome prayer, then read further, and the author suggested just that.

The book is an excellent example of Psalm 40:5, NIV

Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, and the plans you have for us.

Remembering our childhood, we each think of what we would do differently with our children and make plans before they arrive; they arrive, and God has fashioned them differently than us. We then realize there needs to be a different approach. We may plan, but only God knows the outcomes and wonders He creates in our children.

So then, our best bet is to pray prayers of our dreams for them before they are born and even afterward. We should also look to God for direction. As much as we ascribe to perfection in our planning, His plans are perfect!

Key Takeaway:

  • It doesn’t matter how big or small our dreams for our children, we must do so. Scripture states that without vision we perish.
  • While we dream, flexibility is necessary because each child is unique, and God already has plans for him or her.

This book works for all parents, old and new. It could serve as a great discussion starter on what each party thinks parenting should include.

NOTE: I received a complimentary copy of the book. I was not obligated to provide a positive review. These are my thoughts.
