My Thoughts

Deception Is Our Remedy is a whirlwind of action! I have to admit that I was intimidated by the number of pages, but once I began, I was sucked into Callista’s (Cal) mind. I, too, wanted to know what was hidden, and why all the inconsistencies. I was heartbroken on her behalf at the lack of love and constant threat of punishment.

Without throwing in a spoiler, there were a few times when I had to reread certain spots to get the gist of it and others where I shook my head at Cal and thought, Really! You pondered and analyzed, and that decision was the result?

What I Loved

  • Alexandra’s debut book is mature in insight and truly makes one think. In it, I see the daily attacks of the devil and his sole desire to annihilate us because we have chosen God’s side instead of his.
  • The crisis of integrity that we all must face at least once in our lives.
  • The twists and turns in the plot. Just when you think you’ve figured things out–plot twist!

What Gave Me Pause

  • Liam, the main antagonist, was unfailingly evil all the way through. I would have liked to know more of his backstory besides grasping for power. Was there a pivotal moment in his life that changed his outlook? No one is all bad all the time. Even the devil was good until his desire to be a God himself overtook his desire to worship God. I did enjoy hating Liam, though.

Key Takeaways

  • We face daily attacks on our character, some that sink in so deeply that they change who we are and who God destined us to be. e.g. you’re’ ugly, you don’t belong, you’re stupid, this is all there is suck it up, no one will ever love you, you’re just not that good. Once we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we realize the lies that we lived with.
  • It’s okay to be curious. We learn by asking questions.
  • Don’t ever stop seeking answers.
  • Character and integrity do not come to us automatically, so when in a difficult situation, our default will be what we have learned by observation of those around us.

Recommendation:

  • I have not even touched on all the nuances of this book. It is a book for all age groups and an excellent read. If you liked Corinth 2462 AD you will enjoy this book.
