MY THOUGHTS

Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex is my first read from Carole P. Roman and I really enjoyed her style of writing. The book sucks you in from the first page and holds your attention.

Templeton the school for superheroes is the talk of everyone. Entrance into this cool school with the secret location is everyone’s overt or secret desire at Grady’s school.
Grady thinks he has no chance and is happy for, yet jealous of his best friend Aarush, who gets in, while his uncle won’t even discuss why he is against Grady applying and getting in.
We get a taste of Indian culture with a look inside the family dynamics of Aarush’s family via quotes from Ghandi, description of sari’s and mouth watering food selections and even an explanation of the bindi (the red dot on Gita’s forehead).
Aarush being on the spectrum is done really well as we see him from Grady’s point of view and we see their closeness in how Grady himself gets accepted to the school.
The themes of hope, friendship, family, bullying, autism, and ones innate the desire to be someone special are intricately woven into this story that if full of mystery and slightly sinister undertones as the characters grow along with the story.
I rated it 4.5 of 5 stars
