Publisher’s Book Summary: Everyone in George’s family is so embarrassing. His mom can’t cook, his sister is constantly making kissy faces to her phone, and his brother’s wardrobe consists of nothing but costumes. To top it off, George’s dad is known for going outdoors in his underwear!
Will Family Night at school reveal all of their quirks?
Or will George want to hide under his desk to avoid them?
What do you think makes a good story?
Anything heartfelt, has a good feeling, and a little humor. Not everything has to be lesson-based, but it needs to be engaging and allow the reader to go to an imaginary place for a little while.
Have you heard from any readers of Embarrassing George? What kind of things do they say about your story?
Yes! I’ve had great feedback. Many people have commented that it reminds them of their own family! Some have mentioned they feel better about their family. Many moms have said they can’t wait to read it to their children, as their kids are embarrassed by everything they do, and they are hoping this book will help!
What is the most surprising thing you learned about yourself while writing this Embarrassing George?
I learned I’m able to take suggestions, which can be hard! But the story I ended up with is not the story I started with. It really changed and evolved over time. I was able to end up with a story that was more suitable for a general audience. It was less personal than the original, but better for a broader group of readers.
How long did it take you to write this book?
It took several months. The story evolved over that time and went through several weeks of editing.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I have always liked to write and really discovered my passion for it in high school. By college, I wasn’t afraid of all the papers I had to write! I was an English minor and really enjoyed my poetry classes. I don’t know if I ever really thought I wanted a career in writing, but my life just directed me this way.
What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
Hectic. I have a very busy household! I write best at the kitchen counter and don’t get a lot of quiet. My best work usually comes at random times, and I must get it out of my head and onto the paper, even if it’s dinner time.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I don’t know if I would call it a quirk, but if I’m working on a children’s story or a blog post, I really feel like I need to get it all down and mostly complete. Then I go back and work with editing. I don’t like to stop and start when I’m first writing.
I also really need a cup of coffee sitting next to me!
What is one piece of advice you would give to our readers who may be aspiring writers?
I’m all about living your strengths. If writing is a strength or big desire of yours, then I would give it a go! Writing isn’t overwhelming if you love it, so go for it!
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A meteorologist or the president of the PTA. I’m happy those dreams didn’t come true! I have no desire to chase hurricanes or be involved in school drama right now!
Lol! Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I hope you enjoy Embarrassing George! I’m happy to connect with you anytime about books, reading, and writing!

She enjoys drawing characters with funny expressions and anything inspired by nature and animals.
